POSITION DESCRIPTION
The youth ministry’s mission is for every student, no matter their background or experience, to
find a place to belong, to be encouraged, to grow in their understanding of God, and to be
empowered to become all that God has for them in their community, city, and their engagement
in the world. We provide a variety of intentional gathering opportunities to help students, grades
6-12, grow and thrive spiritually, relationally, emotionally, and intellectually.
We are seeking an experienced, gifted, and passionate leader who can lead and ensure that
we are ministering thoughtfully, intentionally, and effectively to the diversity of students that they
serve. The Director of Youth Ministry reports to the Associate Pastor of Family Ministry and
works alongside the Family Ministry team of directors. This director will partner with families and
volunteer teams to live out the vision of the church through ministry to and with adolescents.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Middle and High School Ministry:
● Serve as the visionary for the growing youth ministry to middle and high school students,
providing structure, overseeing the youth ministry budget and expenses, and attending
training seminars to grow in knowledge and depth of youth ministry;
● Serve as primary coordinator for Sunday morning gatherings, middle/high school
retreats, summer Serve & Learn trips and Confirmation/Discipleship courses;
● Oversee volunteer ministry leaders in small and large group settings with youth. This
includes recruiting, training, and developing volunteer leaders;
● Implement age appropriate discipleship and formation curriculum- including the creation,
adaptation, or contextualization of curriculum as needed;
● Oversee all administrative details of youth ministry, including volunteer applications,
ministry handbook, background checks, reference checks, supply purchasing;
● communication, bookkeeping ministry funds, tracking youth offering and attendance,
volunteer scheduling, and coordinating special events as needed;
● Work with the pastoral staff to provide relevant and timely pastoral care for youth and
families of youth;
● Provide support and encouragement to families of youth, creating opportunities for family
events and intentional discussions with parents on developmentally relevant issues.
Other Responsibilities:
● Be fully engaged in the life of Quest;
● Coordinate efforts with the larger Quest staff and participate in weekly staff meetings;
● Help support special events (conferences/gatherings/classes) and worship services at
Quest;
● Help facilitate quarterly adult volunteer training sessions and parent meetings;
● Invest in accountability, formation, and learning with children and youth ministry staff;
and,
● Update CPR and First Aid certification every two years.
REQUIREMENTS
● Commitment to personal spiritual growth, regularly practice spiritual disciplines, and
adhere to the Quest statement of faith, vision, and mission;
● A passion for youth;
● Strong organizational skills and attention to details;
● Curriculum writing/developing skills needed for weekly youth gatherings, teacher
training, and general ministry workshops; and,
● Relational skills: the ability to work with youth, parents, volunteers, as well as ability to
communicate with volunteers toward the ongoing needs of the ministry.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will be experienced in the area of Student/Youth Ministry and possess a call
to invest in the lives of teenagers, leading with cultural fluidity and competency within a
multiethnic, multiracial, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive context.
● 5+ years’ experience in diverse youth ministry settings required.
● A degree in Youth Ministry or Christian Education is preferred but not required.
HOURS, COMPENSATION, AND BENEFITS
Full time: 40 hrs/wk - Exempt
Compensation: $61,715 + Full Individual Benefits and Continuing Education Support
ACCOUNTABILITY & COMMUNICATION
Routine communication and coordination with the larger staff are essential and include a weekly
ministry team meeting and regular attendance at all-staff meetings.
