Respect your elders, change, responsibilityBible Verse(s)
1 Timothy 5:!, Proverbs 20:29; Exodus 20:12Discussion Starter
Something tells me Thanksgiving at that guys house involves one-armed push-ups and an arm wrestling competition. In his case, you have to respect him as an elder or risk being squashed like a bug.
The Bible is full of advice for younger men about older men.
1 Timothy 5:1: Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father.
Proverbs 20:29: The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.
Exodus: 20:12: Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Perhaps the reason that the Bible talks about respecting elders among you is because it’s not required, it’s a choice. Not every elder can do flag stands. But everyone can chose to respect their elders.
3 Questions
1. Which of those exercises could you do right now?
2. Is it easier to get in shape or respect elders?
3. Have you ever done something just to prove to yourself you could do it? If so, what was it?
