Student Ministry Director

REQUIREMENTS

We’re looking for someone called into ministry who:

Is a born again Christian believer with a solid and vivid relationship and daily walk with Christ, is willing to faithfully pursue the leadership characteristics listed in 1 Timothy 3, and will practice biblical faith and support the beliefs and vision of SVCA. [SVCA’s full Faith Statement]. We expect too that you’ll have a healthy family with full support from your spouse as ministry partner if married.

The right candidate will also have a vision and a demonstrated ability to organize and nurture a student ministry. Five or more years of relevant experience with pastoral recommendation desired. This means too you’ll have a great passion and burden for people, especially the students and the lost, and be able to establish and care for saints in Christ.

As a teacher of God’s word you’ll be able to deliver spiritual and practical sermons, teach biblical truth and real life applications to audiences of different ages and backgrounds.

  • Has a college degree, with a seminary degree or pursuit of one (from a Theological Seminary in line with SVCA beliefs) preferred.

  • Is able to communicate in English (both written and oral) with proficiency. Ability to understand/speak Mandarin is a plus.

  • Feels called to serve Christ in the Silicon Valley/Bay Area culture and either lives in or is willing to relocate to the Santa Clara area.

  • Can work legally in the US.

RESPONSIBILITIES

STUDENT MINISTRY covers Middle school (Titus), High school (Timothy), College students/young adults (Thomas), and their families under the guidance of the Senior Pastor and Elder Board.

Shepherding

  • Proactively shepherd (including to nurture, care, and console based on God’s Word) our students in line with SVCA’s overall direction.

  • Plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced and healthy family ministry as an integral part of SVCA. This means student ministry with a view to ministering to the whole family and including the parents in the ministry. This also includes helping protect all students by ensuring that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all Student Ministry settings.

  • You’ll be the primary spiritual voice and example of SVCA to directly teach our students God’s Word and train up others to facilitate small group Bible Study. This includes Sunday School and Small Group curriculum. This can also include preaching on Sundays.

  • Oversee the spiritual formation of our students into true worshippers of Jesus Christ. You will oversee all worship service in students ministry from Friday worship and Bible study to Sunday School, Sunday worship and special events/retreats.

Community Developer

  • Help our students grow together as brothers and sisters as you lead, plan and coordinate all activities for the students, including weekly small group fellowships, outreach, retreats, outings, mission trips, etc.

  • Plan and coordinate activities for at-home students and returning college students. Visit and remotely care for out of town college students through all possible venues.

Discipleship – Take the lead in discipleship by developing and implementing a comprehensive, balanced and biblical approach to student ministry as you equip other coworkers and help parents to disciple.

Evangelism  – Have a special heart to help us grow in passion, urgency, and equipping to share the Gospel regularly in culturally significant ways with friends, classmates, coworkers, and neighbors. Reach out to nearby colleges as local mission.

Leadership Development – You’ll have the amazing chance to recruit, train, and lead student ministry volunteers including parents and students.

Oversight – Help drive the vision and future of the Student Ministry with big picture ideas and administrative oversight of budget, organization, and progress.

Ministry Partner – Be a vital and integral part of the English Ministry and SVCA overall  as you partner with other co-workers to craft the model, growth and vision of the ministry while contributing your gifts – including opportunities to preach sermons, lead in music worship, and create workshops and special events.
