Title: Director of Youth Ministry
Reports to: Pastor, Head of Staff
Compensation: Full time salary and housing

Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church is seeking a mature disciple of Jesus Christ and visionary leader with a natural ability to connect with students and adults alike. This person is excited to live out a dynamic and relevant faithfulness to God alongside middle and high school students, sharing the love embodied by Jesus through their teaching and actions, and creating a space that embodies Jesus’ all-inclusive welcome.

Our new Director will instill a spirit of fun and joy, effectively lead and educate, cultivate a ministry culture of collaboration and excellence, and be highly motivated and adaptable. This person will be an excellent communicator who has a genuine, visible faith that is contagious.

Primary Duties: Help set vision and direction for middle and high school ministry with the primary goal of raising our youth to a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Recruit, resource, and support youth staff, volunteers, and youth interns to help lead the ministry. Work with pastoral staff and the youth session committee in setting vision for Youth Ministry, and communicate that vision effectively to youth and their families.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Recruit and develop volunteer staff, broadening their leadership skills, connecting them to the resources of the Reformed tradition, developing their capacity to relate to and care effectively for students.

Establish loving relationships with adults, students, their families and all youth staff and volunteers.

Be a bridge between the youth ministry and the broader church. Demonstrate consistent engagement in the life of the church staff and broader church community. Create ways for youth to be active in the overall congregation and vice versa.

Develop age appropriate programming for youth ministry that will empower students to follow Jesus Christ in the world, enrich their theological imaginations, and inspire them to serve in their community and beyond.

Plan, coordinate and attend offsite spiritual enriching activities for students such as camps, retreats and conferences.

Preach when called upon.

Be a positive and prayerful church staff member working in cooperation for the overall vision of the church.

Work within the budget set forth by the session for youth ministry.

Model Christian faithfulness for students and youth leaders through a personal study of, and action according to, the life of Jesus.

 

Primary Working Network: Youth staff, Youth Ministry Team (session committee), Youth Ministry Advisors, Pastor and Program Staff.

Job Requirements: A strong and mature personal faith in Jesus Christ; a solid understanding of scripture and a passion to spiritually nurture others; experience working with youth; an ability to lead and relate to students and adults; an ability to be organized, prepared and to follow through on projects; ability to manage a youth staff and volunteers and exercise judgment in delegating work; ability to work well with colleagues.

Master’s degree from an accredited seminary or divinity school
(or similar/relevant training)

PC(USA) or Reformed church background preferred

Competitive salary (including housing) will be offered based on experience
