Associate Director of Middle School – 146th Street Campus

Purpose of the Job

The Associate Director of Middle School, our ministry to sixth through eighth-grade students, as part of the Student Ministries of 146th St. Campus, is responsible for the leadership, training, and shepherding of Assistant Directors, Coaches, Small Group Leaders, and Greeters for Middle School. This role will also partner in overall ministry programming and provide support to volunteers, families, and students in issues related to this age group.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit, Lead and Shepherd Volunteer Leaders
    • Recruit, develop, shepherd and support volunteer leaders, especially Assistant Directors
    • Design leadership development opportunities for volunteer leaders
    • Meet regularly for encouragement and prayer
    • Offer times of connection and celebration
    • Plan, oversee, and encourage creative small group activities
    • Assist Coaches and Assistant Directors in shepherding their teams, as needed
    • Provide input and ideas to curriculum team related to effective small group guides
  • Partner in Overall Ministry Programming
    • Create and cast vision for middle school within the overall purpose of Grace Church
    • Ensure campus alignment with Grace Church’s Student Ministries purpose statement
    • Participate with the middle school staff in developing and coordinating weekend programming with special attention to the flow between large group and small groups
    • Assist in and lead a first impressions team for every middle school service and event
    • Assist in the design and development of retreats, mission trips, and events that support the purpose of middle school
    • Facilitate the communication, promotion, and support of these events
    • Liaison with our high school ministry related to curriculum continuity, unique times of connection, and the transition of 8th graders into high school
  • Provide Support to Families and Students
    • Champion issues directly affecting students
    • Respond to conflict and provide counsel when needed
    • Create and encourage opportunities for growth
    • Offer tools and resources
  • Manage Administration
    • Track and update students and volunteers in the Rock.
    • Process volunteer applications, conduct background checks, and update records
    • Track registrations and payments for events and trips
    • Provide program information and resources to volunteers
    • Attend staff meetings
    • Attend ministry gatherings when assigned
    • Send out mailings, emails, social media updates
    • Receive calls for general information for middle school
    • Follow up with new student


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Ministry, or related field preferred
  • 2- 5 years of progressively responsible education, student development or ministry experience
  • Schedule includes Saturday night and Sunday morning presence
  • Proven Experience in the following areas of skill:
    • Solid interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
    • Ability to communicate love and truth to students
    • Ability to establish healthy, balanced and intentional programming with a team of adults and students
    • Ability to lead and shepherd groups and teams
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Computer literacy and detail orientation
    • Exhibited knowledge of emotional, cognitive and spiritual challenges specific to students
