Announcing the Multi-Site Church Youth Ministry Campference

Details at a glance:

  • January 9 – 11
  • Orange County CA
  • All-inclusive price: $300 – $365

There has been an explosion of churches moving to a multi-site approach in the last few years. Understandably, a church’s decision to move to a multi-site approach is rarely (if ever) driven by the mission of the youth ministry. And as such, youth workers in these churches are often scrambling to figure out best practices, formats and structures, success metrics, and all sorts of other variables.

Over and over and over again we find that youth workers in multi-site churches are wrestling with some of the same questions. The answers to those questions might not be the same for each church and youth worker; but there is massive benefit in co-wrestling.

That co-wrestling – which might be synonymous with healthy dialogue – is the gooey center of our Campference event approach. As has been true with our Middle School Ministry Campference and our Women in Youth Ministry Campference, we will overlay a fantastic conference schedule onto a residential shared experience, providing lots of time for conversation. While we’ll have some great speakers, the best take-away will be from the others you meet, sit with at meals, and chat with late into the night.

Here’s the rough schedule for this first-ever Multi-Site Campference:

Tuesday, January 9

4:30 – 6:30pm – Registration/Check-in open

7:00 – 8:30pm – Big Meeting 1

8:45 – 9:45pm – Multi-Site Issues, round 1 (All participants will be broken into four groups. These groups will rotate, over the course of the event, through four guided conversations on common issues facing youth workers in multi-site churches.)

10 – midnight – Late Night Options

Wednesday, January 10

8:00 – 9:00am – Breakfast (provided)

9:15 – 10:15am – Seminars

10:30 – noon – Big Meeting 2

Noon – 1pm – Lunch (provided)

1:00 – 2:00pm – Multi-Site Issues, round 2

2:15 – 3:15pm – Multi-Site Issues, round 3

3:15 – 6:00pm – Free Time

6:00 – 7:00pm – Dinner (provided)

10:30 – noon – Big Meeting 4

Noon – Campference ends!

The Youth Cartel is planning this event in partnership with Kurt Johnston of Saddleback Church. But this is not a “come learn how Saddleback does it” event. We will, however, be meeting, eating and sleeping at Saddleback’s retreat center – The Ranch – in Rancho Capistrano, Orange County, California. This beautiful facility offers us hotel-style accommodations in either double occupancy (2 beds) or quad occupancy (still 2 beds!). You don’t have to attend in multiples of 2 or 4 – those are merely the accommodations options; and we’re happy to match you up with others. We’ve worked hard to keep the prices WAY down, so you can consider bringing your team.

Here are the all-inclusive registration prices (these prices include program, two nights’ accommodation, and four meals):

  • (by Sept 15) early bird registration with double occupancy accommodations — $325
  • (by Sept 15) early bird registration with quad occupancy accommodations — $300
  • (Sept 15 – Dec 1) regular registration with double occupancy accommodations — $365
  • (Sept 15 – Dec 1) regular registration with quad occupancy accommodations — $340
  • (after Dec 1) late registration with whatever accommodations we can fit you in — $390
  • (by Sept 15) early bird no bed (only program and meals — must be a local resident) — $270
  • (Sept 15 – Dec 1) regular no bed (only program and meals — must be a local resident) — $300

So, we’ll have a website and registration up soon, hopefully by late July. But start planning to join us now! OH, and space is VERY limited – we will have room for approximately 100 people.

  1. I am interested in attending this event, however I don’t think we have the budget to go to it. Will these sessions be recorded and can we purchase those?

  2. hey jeff — sorry, man, but we won’t be recording the sessions. two main reasons for that:
    1. the event is specifically designed to be high on interaction and conversation.
    2. it’s a small, boutique event, and we won’t have the bandwidth for that cost or tech.

sorry again — hope there’s some way you can figure out how to join us!

  3. When are you opening registration? I have been looking for over a month for a link to go live here.

    1. ah, shoot! it’s been open for a while now! i totally didn’t think about posting it here!

      here’s the site:
