A Letter to Our Customers

Dear friends of the Cartel,

Happy New Year! We want to kick off this new year by telling you about a big change to our publishing line.

The Youth Cartel’s mission is to encourage and challenge adults who minister to youth through holistic professional coaching, strategic consulting, transformational events, and inventive resource development that advance youth ministry in new ways.

When we launched our publishing line in 2011 we decided to work with Amazon.com to help us distribute our books around the world. Like a lot of people, we love how easy it is to buy books from Amazon, and what’s not to love about Amazon Prime?

For the first few years it worked well. Although their terms weren’t great we managed to make it work because it was convenient for you.

However, about two years ago Amazon changed their terms to maximize their profits while minimizing ours, which started making things difficult to impossible for us.

As it stands now, we lost $2.29 for every book sold on Amazon in 2016, while they averaged more than $7 in profits.

Let’s be honest. If Amazon.com is profiting $7 per book while we’re losing $2.29 per book we sell through them, we simply cannot continue to develop the inventive resources you need.

Effectively immediately we’re no longer sending books to Amazon.com. Instead, we are going to sell our stuff directly to you through our website and other like-minded independent booksellers. We know we can offer you personalized service that’s better than Amazon AND offer free shipping on every single purchase shipped to addresses in the United States of $19 or more.

In short, rather than boosting their stock price we are going to serve you better while leaving us with the profit per book sold we need to continue to develop inventive resources for your ministry.

Viva la Cartel. And Hasta la vista Amazon.
